Principal's letter, goodbyes, and material drop-off schedule

End of Year Goodbyes & Materials Drop-off Schedule

June 9, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we try to find closure in this most unusual school year, all of the faculty and staff of MES want to express our deep appreciation for all your support during this school closure.  No one is feeling good about not being able to properly say goodbye to our students.  We feel the loss of our end of the year activities and traditions that make this time so rewarding as we get ready for summer vacations.  We have missed your children so much - after all, most of us joined the teaching profession because of our deep love for young children. Not being able to receive those random hugs, watch their silliness at lunch, or listen to their playful giggles at recess has taken a toll on all your teachers - and me.  But because of your perseverance, dealing with tech glitches, and bringing that iPad into their bedroom (and even under the covers!) you have helped your children stay connected to their school.  We still shared a little school spirit with your child’s Morning Meetings and Mr. Sam’s Wolf Pup Blog.  And our MES teachers, tutors, and paras have worked so hard to keep your children engaged and learning.  This has truly been a shared community effort, and we have gotten through it together.

What will school look like in the fall? We just don’t know, yet.  But please, rest assured that we will be closely monitoring directives from the Governor, the CDC, the Agency of Education and we will be looking at various models to determine what will be best for students. Your children, our students are always and will remain our primary focus of care and concern.  We will design curriculum, schedules, spaces, and programs for schooling that will be best for students’ health, emotional wellness, and continued learning.

As school is officially coming to a close this week, we have created a schedule for you to return all the school materials that we sent home 3 months ago. IPads need to be fully charged and returned with the case and iPad charging cord (unless you’ve already made arrangements with our tech department to keep it for the summer). Also to be returned are the classroom books, library books, and plastic book bins (not all classes received these, and some teachers have sent separate notes about books that can be kept). Art supplies, math games and math tools, blank journals can all be kept. Maybe your child will find some use for these over the summer.

Drop-off Schedule for all materials:

Thursday, June 11th, 8:00-11:00 - Kindergarten

Thursday, June 11th, 1:00-4:00 - 1st Grade

Friday, June 12th, 7:30-10:30 - 2nd grade

Friday, June 12th, 10:30-1:30 - 3rd Grade

Friday, June 12th, 1:30-4:30 - 4th Grade

  • If you have children in more than 1 grade, pick one class time, and you may drop off everything your kids have at that time.

  • Pull into the circle in front of the main entrance and stay in your car.

  • We will have staff members, wearing masks, directing one parent at a time to get out and bring you materials to an outdoor table (or right inside the lobby if it’s raining) so the iPad can be turned on and checked.

  • Please put your child’s school materials in a bag with their name on it (one bag per student) which we will return to the classroom teacher.

  • There will be marked bins for returning Library books.

  • Students’ belongings and work from the classroom have been gathered by all teachers, and a staff member will bring your child’s bag out to you.

If you have any problems with dropping off materials, please call Kris at 888-3101.  She is so excited to be working back in the office again, Mon-Fri, 8:00-4:00.

If you haven’t seen Mr. Sam’s Wolf Pup Blog, or if your child wants to look back at all his fun posts since we closed, here it is:  https://morristownwolfpups.blogspot.com/

And even though we can’t officially say goodbye, you can send happy thoughts and wishes to these departing MES Faculty and Staff: MES Faculty & Staff Send Off

Lamoille County Mental Health Services has opened a Parent Support Line; 735-0115, Monday-Friday, 3:00pm-9:00pm.  If you need food, housing, advice about your child, substance abuse counseling, or just someone to talk it out with, please call.  They have access to all our wonderful community support agencies, and they truly want to help families through these difficult times.

Food distribution will continue to be offered at MES, throughout the summer, MWF, 9:30-11:00.  This is for any children 18 or younger, they don’t have to go to Morrisville Schools and they don’t have to be with you. Just drive into the bus loop at MES and you will receive 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches for as many children as you need to feed.

Please remember that while some school grounds are reopening, the MES playground structure will remain closed.  It would be too difficult to disinfect it after every use.

We hope you have an enjoyable summer - we all deserve some R&R!  Stay healthy, stay safe, and we will see all of you and your children’s smiling faces in August - one way or another!

I am available all summer - just an email away,

Kate Torrey
