VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Welcome to the Morristown School Community Volunteer Program!

We hope you will find volunteering a rewarding experience. Your energy, generosity, caring and dependability are all part of the positive role model you provide for our students. The staff and students appreciate and value the gift of your time, be it one hour or 200 hours.

If you filled out the Volunteer Form at the beginning of the year - Thank you! I have contacted many of you. If there is a time or day of the week that you can volunteer, please give me a call or e-mail me. Every month, I will have information on the back of the school calendar about volunteer opportunities.

If you would like to volunteer, please download and fill out the form and return to the school office. It is very helpful to have the information on hand to match up a volunteer with the job that needs to be filled.

A big ‘THANK YOU' to all the volunteers who have given their time & talents over the years.

Research shows that where there are strong volunteer programs, test scores are higher, discipline is more easily maintained, and students' achievement is greater. Volunteers bring a wealth of life experiences and show students that their community cares about them.

If you have any questions, I can be reached at MES at 888-3101 or by e-mail at: ruth.brown@morrisville.org or at home at 888-7656. Thank you.

Information about Volunteering at MES

It is our hope that this information will answer some of your questions. Volunteers bring a valued dimension to our schools as adult role models and send a message to our students that the community cares about the school and all its inhabitants. You will find you have a better understanding of how the integral parts of our school fit together to provide our students with a solid foundation as lifelong learners.

The Morristown Schools, teachers, staff and especially the students thank you for volunteering you time, energy and talents in our collective effort to best meet the needs of our children. You truly help to make our vision, "A Community of Learners with the Courage to Grow," a reality.

When you arrive ...

When entering the school, please sign in the volunteer book, which will be located in each school's office. A sign in and sign out process will help us keep track of volunteer hours and also let us know additional people that are in our buildings. All volunteers are asked to wear a nametag that will be provided and located by the sign in book while they are in the building.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so the teacher/contact person can instruct you. Remember that once you have made a commitment to be in school, the teacher/contact person is relying on you and may have made specific plans for you. If you know in advance that you can’t make your commitment, please notify the teacher as soon as possible.

Working with Students

Students need to be in adult supervision at all times. Please do not leave students you are working with unattended. Students are not allowed to leave the school building. If there is any type of illness or injury, bring the student to the school nurse. No medication is to be given to students by a volunteer.

We believe that it is the privilege and responsibility of all adults in the building, including our volunteers, not only to model appropriate behavior but to be responsive to the behavior of the students. Join with us in our on- going efforts to help our students make good choices. Do not hesitate to bring an issue of behavior to the attention of a teacher. We expect our students to be find and courteous to their fellow students and all adults– which they usually are. However, when they are not, your responsibility is to let us know.

CONFIDENTIALITY

As a volunteer of the Morristown Schools, you are bound by the federal laws of confidentiality, which govern the management of our school records and personally identifiable information. These laws allow disclosure of the student’s name, degrees and awards received, officially recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams and the date separated. Any other information about a student may not be disclosed with out the prior written consent of the parent or of the eligible student.

If a conflict arises, a volunteer will discuss any concerns with the staff member involved if needed. If further discussion is needed, the volunteer will make an appointment with the administrator. At no time should there be any public discussion. Volunteers will recognize the confidentiality required of all staff and will also honor it.
