Bonjour families and friends! Here is the latest scoop from our classroom.

Literacy

This week's Open Court story was Hungry Little Hare by Howard Goldsmith. IN this fiction story, a little jackrabbit keeps bumping into or stepping on creatures that she can't see because they are camouflaged and blend into their surroundings. She learns that these animals must be hidden in order to survive being eaten by their predator. She also learns that she too becomes “invisible”, especially when she turns white in the winter.

Our phonics lessons focused on the sounds of “oo”, “ow” as in the words ground, and brown.  We also practiced making compound words.

Math

We have been working on place value, specifically with the numbers 1-100. We played a number of games using the 1-100 Number Board and looked at patterns and relationships with these numbers.

We have also continued to practice 2-digit addition and working on fact family equations in our Skill Power workbook.

Theme

This week we finished learning about the African Grasslands habitat and the interesting animals found there. We enjoyed making lion masks!

Yesterday, we started our study of the tropical rain forests. Did you know that more that half of the world's animal and plant species are found in the rain forests of the world?

Other News

Alek has been our Star of the Week!

We enjoyed the Kids on the Block puppet show on Monday. We learned a lot about bullying and about kids who are visually impaired.

Have a wonderful weekend!
