Greetings families and friends! Here is the latest news from our classroom.

Literacy

This week, we read the story Come back, Jack! by Catherine and Laurence Anholt. In this story, a young girl discovers that books can be very exciting when she happens to follow her little brother on an adventure inside a book! Along the way, her little brother Jack becomes the character Jack from the Nursery Rhymes ‘Jack and Jill”, “Jack be Nimble” , “Little Jack Horner”, and from the story Jack and the Beanstalk.

Our spelling and phonics lessons focused on words with “r” blends (such as grow, drum, trip) and we also practiced words with the sounds of ou and ow as in the words found and crowd.

Math
We continued to practice addition equations this week. The students are learning to look for patterns and to think about fact families. For example, if 3+6=9 then 6+3=9. We also learned about “touch points”. Ask your child to explain these to you.

Theme
Natural Disasters is our new science theme! The students are very excited about this topic and have many questions. Today, we started to learn about hurricanes.

Other News

Ethan was our Star of the Week!

We enjoyed having our pictures taken on Wednesday. We also enjoyed our first Four Winds lesson. Mrs. Lynn Belisle is the volunteer for our class. She taught us about the interesting adaptations of insects. Nico’s mom will also be volunteering as a Four Winds teacher starting next month! Thank you!

On Monday, we celebrated Constitution Day!

Here is our riddle for the week:
What animal should you never play cards with?

Have a terrific weekend!
