Shalom Families and Friends! Welcome to the latest edition
of our classroom newsletter. Here is a peek at our week at school.
Literacy
This week's Open Court story was called How The Guinea Fowl Got
her Spots by Barbara Knutson. It is an African folktale that tells
of a special friendship between a cow and a guinea fowl named Nganga.
It also explains why guinea fowls have spots.
We
worked on words with the suffixes -ly and -ing (as in the words
quietly and shopping). Our phonics lessons focused on contractions
with the words not, is and are. Examples are isn't, she's and we're.
Math
We continued to practice putting numbers in order and using the
greater than (>) and less than (<) signs. We played some games
that focused on place value (100's, 10's and 1's) to help
us understand the difference between numbers in order to put them
in order.
Theme
Did you know that a polar bear's skin is actually black? We
learned some amazing facts about the animals of the polar regions
this week. We made a penguin book that highlights some of the interesting
kinds of penguins. Did you know that the smallest penguin is only
about 15 inches tall?
Other News
Michael has been our Star of the Week!
Here is our Friday riddle:
What grows in the winter, dies in the summer, and hangs in the air?
Have
a fabulous weekend!
