| Middle
Level Technology Integration Course |
|
Welcome to the central communications point for
the Middle Level Technology Integration Course. This website
will directly support Middle Staff that are participating in the
course. Participants should check here often to view on-going
additions to the resources and information that will accompany the
course as we progress through the 2004-2005 school year. We
encourage others members of our school community to stop in and
keep track as well.
We hope that participants will submit additional resources and materials
relating to course subjects that those in the wider school community
might benefit from and use. A primary goal of this course
is to develop a greater capacity and willingness to share the knowledge
capital that exists within our school community. To submit
additional resources or materials contact Coach
Arnold.

Educational
Web Adventures (Eduweb®)
is an award-winning developer of online learning experiences.
They seek to engage the many ways people learn with the thoughtful
application of learning theory, imaginative conceptualizations,
and unflinching evaluation. Their broad experience in museum
and K-12 education, combined with a deep subject knowledge
of art, history and science, have helped to produce over 75
immersive, interactive, and in-depth adventures about art,
science, history, and technology.
If
you are thinking of meaningful ways to have technology help
inspire learning and student performance, this is a great
resource to utilize.
I
have used several of these activities with students in the
past and they were a big-hit with students. As a teacher,
I felt that it was some of the best time I asked students
to spend in front of a computer screen. |

KitZu:
The premise of KitZu is that if students are supplied with the
basic building blocks of a project first (i.e., graphics, music,
sound, video clips, etc.), then it will be easier to use technology
applications (iMovie, Pinnacle, PowerPoint, VideoBlender) to
build engaging works. As they master the technology, they will
progress from building projects with supplied materials to project
where they find their own resources---a strategy that results
in truly authentic assessment as measured by the projects produced.
To support this scaffolding strategy, the development
of an online database (kitZu) is underway that will allow kits
and their assets to be stored, searched for and downloaded by
teachers and students in the classroom.
This is a project
we might consider valuable as part of an instructional model
for technology integration.

Tools |
|
As a part of this course,
teachers will examine the way that people can use technology to
think collaboratively. We will be using a variety of on-line
applications that are examples of tools that have been designed
for people to more effectively work in teams, share knowledge, and
save time by contributing to "group think". At the
same time the tools we have selected to work together in this course
are capable of being integrated use with students in the classroom
(a great example of modeling). Below are key links that will take
you to different "work spaces" that are part of this course.
